Fundraiser Posted for Girlfriend of Man Shot in Parking Lot
A co-worker of the woman whose boyfriend was shot yesterday morning in the parking lot of the Lititz Family Cupboard Restaurant has set up an online fundraiser to benefit the woman, Kara Warfel. Her boyfriend, Darrel Smith, remains hospitalized in Lancaster recovering from gunshot wounds to the face and jaw.
“Kara is a co-worker and friend of mine. Her boyfriend, children and family were the victim [sic] of a senseless act of violence today,” posted Beth Mendez on the fundraising page for Kara Warfel that she posted to the GoFundMe.com site last night. “Please give what you can to support her during this tragedy.”
By early this morning, $845 had been donated towards a goal of $10,000, with donations ranging from $20 to $200 coming in during the first eleven hours of the campaign. Donors also posted words of concern and support for the family on the site.
“So sorry you have been affected by this senseless act!!! Prayers being sent your way,” wrote a donor.
“So very sorry for what has happened to your family,” wrote another donor.
Similar sentiments of support were also posted late yesterday to Kara Warfel’s Facebook page.
Smith is expected to recover from his wounds. We will be updating this story, and all of our coverage of this shooting, as we receive new information. Check back frequently for updates throughout the day, and an exclusive interview with a woman in the restaurant at the time of the shooting.
